National Squad

Congratulations to Ben Currie on his selection to the National Squad.  Is a great achievement for the 2nd year running, well done Ben.

This week will see 3 of our lads begin their scholarship seasons.  Ben at Wigan, Greg at St Helens and Peter at Leigh.  This again is an excellent achievement for the 3 lads and is testament to all the hard work the 3 of them put in on and off the field.

Friendly success

An impressive mid-week outing for the lads saw them emerge 34-24 winners against Wigan St Cuthberts.  An under strength Golborne side with 4 key regulars missing saw their pre-season hard work pay off with a dominant first half display.  A Cuthberts fight back in the second half was predicted but the lads stood strong and despite conceding some soft tries had enough in the engine to add to their half time lead.  An all round great team effort gives us all food for thought for the new season.  Plenty of hard work still to do at training but with a good start to the new season under their belts confidence is high in the camp.

Lets keep up the hard work in training lads an keep enjoing your rugby!

Double success for national carnival selection!!!

Congratulations go to Ben Currie and Greg Wilde for their selection on this years National carnival.  It is an excellent achievement for both lads to be recognised as being 2 of the the highest quality under 15s in the country.  This is testament to both the lads hard work both on and off the field.

If the lads perform to the standards we all know they can do we are sure the selection for the national squad will only be around the corner!  Excellent achievement lads keep up the hard work!

Opening fixture announced (see right for full list of Golborne fixtures - full league season to be added soon)

Golborne start their 08/09 premiership campaign at home to Blackbrook.  the lads had mixed fortunes against the St Helens outfit last year.  Their most impressive victory last year came away to Blackbrook with a fantastic win with only 12 players against a full strength opposition.  Unfortunately they couldn't complete the double being defeated in one of the final games of the season however the lads will feel they should have won that day.

Now is the time to kick off their season and show the league we are in business this year!

Pre-season has began well with the lads training hard in preparation for what we are expecting to be the toughest season yet.  A good run out at Portico and a great day at our 9s is excellent preparation so far but plenty of hard work to do now to make sure we hit the ground running in this years premiership!

Well done lads and keep up the hard work - plenty of positives to take out of the tournament and lots to keep us busy at training before the league starts in 4 weeks now!

With the league reduced to just 8 teams competition will be at the highest standard and the lads will need to be focussed all game every game throughout the season if they want to improve on last seasons impressive 5th place finish.
